Shillong, July 2: The Congress party is set to begin its election campaign in Telangana as party leader Rahul Gandhi addresses a public meeting in Khammam on Sunday.

The rally will also mark the conclusion of Congress State Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s ‘padayatra’, a foot march that covered 1,360 km in 108 days, party sources revealed. Gandhi will felicitate Vikramarka, who commenced his journey near Adilabad.

During the meeting, former Khammam MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy will join the Congress party. Recently, Srinivas Reddy and former minister Jupally Krishna Rao announced their decision to join the party. The Congress party in neighboring Telangana received a boost following its victory in the recent Karnataka elections.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MP A Revanth Reddy stated that the party aims to end the rule of the ruling BRS (Bathukamma, Rangareddy, and Sircilla) in the state with the rally in Khammam. Reddy, who inspected the arrangements for the public meeting, expressed confidence that the rally would witness a larger turnout compared to the previous rally organized by the ruling BRS in the town.

With an eye on the upcoming Assembly polls later this year in Telangana, the Congress party is making extensive arrangements to ensure the success of the rally attended by Rahul Gandhi.
