SHILLONG, July 4: The FKJGP Riwar Mihngi Circle has urged the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) to take urgent steps to improve the condition of the Shillong-Dawki road, especially the stretch from Laitlyngkot to Dawki.
Members of the FKJGP Riwar Mihngi Circle met NHIDCL Executive Director, Ajay Verma here on Monday and were assured that repair work will start immediately after the weather improves.
“We are concerned since the pathetic condition of this road has affected the people for whom this road is the lifeline as it connects them with the state capital,” FKJGP Riwar Mihngi Circle president, Evanfield Khonglam said after meeting the NHIDCL official.
The organisation also submitted a petition to the NHIDCL executive director recalling the major landslide at Rngaiñ on April 14 which led the death of two persons.
“The continued landslide at Rngaiñ and other stretch along the Shillong-Tamabil Road has created risks for travellers and vehicles. The dangerous situation on NH-40 has been created by reckless construction work,” the petition said.
