Pentagon to change security policies after docs leak
Washington, June 6: The Pentagon is set to change its security policies after dozens of classified files were published online in April, a media report said on Thursday. According to a senior defence officials, the results of a 45-day review of Pentagon policies and procedures, ordered by Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin in the wake of the leak, suggested the need to increase oversight for those trusted with classified national security information, the BBC reported. The new measures include the appointment of officers to control the level of access to top secret data and installing systems to detect electronic devices. Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old former US air national guardsman, has been charged under the Espionage Act for allegedly posting the sensitive material online. He has however, denied the charge and is currently awaiting trial. (IANS)
Indian chef killed by compatriot in Sri Lanka
Colombo, June 6: An Indian national has been arrested for allegedly murdering a fellow Indian at a restaurant here in Sri Lanka, police said on Thursday. The accused, who is the manager of the restaurant at Galle Face in Colombo, attacked Ajay Kumar, who was employed at the same place as the head chef, with a sharp weapon following a brawl on Wednesday night. Both the persons were lodged together at the nearby Slave Island area, the police said. The body of the 29-year-old victim is kept at the Colombo Hospital mortuary while the accused is in custody. The accused is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Fort magistrate later on Thursday, the police said.(IANS)
Indian woman jailed for stabbing lover’s wife
Dubai, June 6: A 38-year-old Indian woman has been jailed for two years in Dubai, and she faces deportation for attacking her lover’s wife with a fruit knife, a media report said. A Dubai Criminal Court heard that the attack happened after the woman went to tell the wife about her 15-year affair with the husband, The National newspaper reported on Thursday. According to court records, the woman went to the man’s apartment in Al Qusais on October 26 last year, where she met his wife at the door. She hugged the victim, and in the process, stabbed her twice in the back, leaving 4 cm deep wounds, medical records showed. The husband, also an Indian, rushed to help his wife and managed to remove the knife from the woman’s hand, while the daughter called the Dubai Police. (IANS)
Primary schools in B’desh shut due to heatwave
IDhaka, June 5: The Bangladesh Education Ministry has announced a four-day closure of government primary schools across the country because of the ongoing heatwave. The Ministry noted the decision was taken considering the health and safety of the children, reports Xinhua news agency. The authorities are expected to take further preventive measures if the heatwave continues. (IANS)
