Shillong, July 9: The sensational midnight rowdyism at Laitumkhrah last Thursday-Friday has woken up the Dorbar Shnong to corrective action, while police is pursuing criminal investigation into the factors leading to burning down of three vehicles inside the police station. The Dorbar will be having a meeting with the district administration on Monday to deliberate on the steps which are required to be taken to prevent untoward incidents which might disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the locality.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office at 4pm on Monday.
Informing this here on Sunday, Laitumkhrah Rangbah Shnong, Andrew Jyrwa said that the Dorbar Shnong in its emergency meeting of Dorbar Pyllun has taken some measures to keep a close watch on the suspicious activities in the various parts of the locality.
He informed that they will be continuing with their night patrolling especially in vulnerable areas where the youth are known to often gather together.
The Durbar along with the members of the Seng Kynthei and Seng Samla had started the night patrolling since Friday.
Meanwhile, Jyrwa informed that they have also decided not to allow people to hang out late in the night including night parking of vehicle in the locality.
“We will not allow people to drink liquor in the isolated junctions within the locality. We will take strong action against those who are indulging in any illegal activities,” the Rangbah Shnong said.
According to him, they have found that the principal cause of the recent incident was due to the habit of late night hangout often in inebriated condition.
The Rangbah Shnong also said that they will not allow the roadside food stalls to continue to open till late in the night.
“We have witnessed that these roadside food stalls are also the places where people are hanging out. We cannot monitor whether these food stalls are selling other things,” Jyrwa said.
He also informed that they have decided to install CCTV cameras in all the strategic locations of the locality.
Meanwhile, a senior police official informed that the five arrested accused had been remanded to five days’ police custody by the local court.
“We have not made any more arrest,” a senior police official said.

Another version of the incident
Meanwhile, investigations have revealed that the incident actually took place at Bhagyakul on Thursday night at around 10:30 pm where a group of three young boys who were drunk had parked their vehicle right at the Bhagyakul junction and blocked the entry point.
When the victim party wanted to enter Bhagyakul in his car, he requested the boys to make way for him to enter. However, the intoxicated boys allegedly started to abuse and threaten him. Later, it is alleged, they physically assaulted the car driver and began to hit his car. Sensing trouble the man somehow managed to escape, sources said.
According to sources, while returning from his friend’s house his friend accompanied him for safety reasons but they again met the same group of three drunk boys on the Laitumkhrah main road. Apparently, the assailants were looking out for them in enraged mood.
Sources informed that the group of intoxicated boys summoned another 30 or more people forcing the complainants to run to the Laitumkhrah police station for safety and help. However, the police station was soon surrounded by a big crowd.
Moreover, sources informed that the victim party filed a complaint and FIR was promptly registered.
As the police was busy dealing with the complaint, miscreants torched the police vehicles as well as the vehicle of the victim.
Sources informed that medical examination of the victim was conducted on the very night and it was established that he was not under the influence of alcohol.
