Electrocution victim’s family claims compensation in WGH
TURA, July 11: The family of the three electrocution victims, one of whom died on the spot at Chenggapara in West Garo Hills, has submitted a letter to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner claiming compensation. Recently on July 9, three persons of the same family- Epsilla N Marak (35), Blessa Glory S Sangma (1) and Brian Donseng M Marak (22) were electrocuted due to the alleged negligence by the MeECL. While Epsilla and Blessa Glory survived with injuries, Brian Donseng succumbed to his injuries at his residence. The family blamed the negligence of the concerned department for the incident and an FIR was also filed on the same day the Purakhasia Police Station. The claim for compensation was made by family member, Bostone M Sangma, who urged the Deputy Commissioner to initiate necessary action for the early payment of compensation.
BSF seizes apparel worth Rs 13L
SHILLONG, July 11: Alert troops of 4th Battalion BSF Meghalaya Frontier on Monday seized clothing items (sarees) worth about Rs 13 lakh, while they were being smuggled to Bangladesh through the international border in East Khasi Hills. The consignment was seized troops of BSF BOP Pyrdwah. On being challenged by BSF, the smugglers fled away from the spot, taking advantage of the thick vegetation and undulating terrain leaving behind the consignment of apparel. The seized items were handed over to the concerned customs office for necessary action.
Shop for agri produce opens in WJH
JOWAI, July 11: An agriculture produce shop called Collective Marketing Centre of Integrated Village Cooperation Society (IVCS) Limited was launched by Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla at Mukhla Nongrim West Jaintia, adjacent to Thadlaskein Lake. The centre deals in sale of different varieties of vegetable seeds besides cattle and pet feed. Insecticides and pesticides are on sale too.
