BSF hinders smuggling bid, seizes items

SHILLONG, July 14: Clothing items worth more than Rs 14 lakh was seized by the BSF from the border area of South West Khasi Hills in the wee hours of Friday.
The consignment was seized by the troops of BOP Bagli of the 01 Bn BSF when the miscreants were trying to smuggle it over to Bangladesh.
On being challenged by the BSF, the smugglers managed to flee by taking advantage of thick vegetation and undulating terrain leaving behind their head loads.
16 bundles of clothing were seized and were handed over to the customs office, Barsora.
The BSF is maintaining a high degree of alertness along the Indo-Bangladesh border and nefarious attempts by smugglers are being foiled continuously, a statement issued here informed.
