SHILLONG, July 15: Airing its concerns with its patron, the state government, the authorities at the Umroi airport have asked the Chief Secretary to start a shuttle bus service to and from Shillong, while also calling for fixed taxi fares from the airport to different places in the state capital.
In a letter to Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, the airport authorities sought a direct approach road from Shillong Bypass to Terminal Building besides deployment of state police under Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) policy.
It may be recalled that in 2017, the Meghalaya government had decided to deploy state police at Shillong Airport and also identified 69 posts accordingly. The matter, however, is pending.
Moreover, they also apprised the government about the need for a village road diversion in view of the city side security of the airport.
The state government was also asked to remove obstacles on RWY (runway) 22 Side. They said that compensation in this regard was paid and the Ri-Bhoi district administration has already submitted estimates to the state government for removal of obstacles in the remaining portion of RWY 22 Side and RWY 04 Side in Ri-Bhoi district’s portion.
In the RWY 04, which comes under East Khasi Hills, obstacles have been identified by the Joint team and the district administration is working on it.
The authorities, however, pointed out that the progress is slow
Lastly, the authorities have also sought exemption from KHADC trading licence for works and supplies at the airport.
