5 arrested, heroin seized

Khliehrait, July 19: Acting on a tip-off Meghalaya Police on July 16 arrested to two ladies namely Hohoi Lhanghal and Ling Haokip who were  proceeding from Silchar ( in Assam)  towards Khliehriat and suspected to be carrying a consignment of illegal contraband,  at BMS Fuel Station, Nongsningat around  am. They were travelling in a tourist Sumo bearing register number of MZ-04A-2995.

After following all legal provisions as per NDPS Act, searches of the above ladies were conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and suspected contraband substances were recovered from their possessions. Preliminary test was then conducted on the suspected contraband and  that gave a positive result for heroin, which was subsequently seized. The total net weight of the suspected heroin seized was 197.35 grams.

On the same date, a police team proceeded to Shillong and apprehended one Ngal Rami Nano (28), the purported receiver of the suspected heroin, from her rented apartment at Nongmensong with the help of ANTF team, East Khasi Hills and staff of Nongmensɔng OP. She hails from Thangzau Road Hill Town, Churachandpur, Manipur. In this regard, cases vide Khliehriat PS Case No. 53 (7)2023 u/s 21(b)/27 A/29 NDPS Act was registered.

Further, during the interrogation of the arrested persons,  Ngai Rami Nano revealed that the two persons namely,  Khailen Hoakip (42) and Ling Haokip (40) were the supplier of drugs hailing from Manipur. Therefore, on the 18th July, the police team from Khliehriat proceeded to Shillong and with the help of ANTF team, East Khasi Hills and staff of Rynjah PS apprehended them from Shillong and brought to Khliehriat PS for taking further necessary legal action.
