SHILLONG, July 19: The government is likely to set up two heliports, one at New Shillong Township and another at Tura, to facilitate the movement of passengers via choppers.
A government source said the proposal has been forwarded to the Centre and approval is awaited.
Currently, air passengers in Shillong use the Air Force helipad at Upper Shillong while in Tura, a land owned by the BSF, is being used for operation of the helicopter services.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma had recently met Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia and discussed the proposal to set up the two heliports.
