Shillong, July 24: Since the distressing video of the mob attack on two Kuki women in Manipur’s Kangpokpi on May 4 went viral, several cases of alleged sexual assault have come to light.
Various associations claim that at least seven Kuki-Zomi women have been raped since the outbreak of violence in Manipur on May 3.
India Today reported that in response to the emerging reports, Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh has stated that only one incident of rape has been officially reported among the 6,068 FIRs registered for murder, arson, and rioting across the state. He referred to the survivor seen in the viral video.
The Chief Minister also addressed another case where two girls were allegedly gang-raped inside a car wash center, stating that autopsy reports ruled out rape or any form of sexual assault. Additionally, he mentioned that the survivors from the viral video interview denied being raped.
