Panel to foster peace in border areas of JH

JOWAI, July 23: Members of Namdong Block and Laskein Block Border Area Peace Committee, a newly created panel, on Saturday organised a gathering to foster peace and harmony along the Meghalaya-Assam frontier.
Scores of people living along the interstate border enthusiastically attended the gathering.
The committee aims to hold back any dispute and pave way to resolute preservation of law and order.
The peace committee meeting urged all citizens of Jaintia Hills, especially Namdong and Laskein Block area, to retain peace in the area.
The meeting was chaired by the Committee chairman Aiborlang Shadap in the presence of hundreds of villagers from different villages, and NGOs from Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
Others who spoke at the gathering included Syiem of Hima Mylliem Lebarious Manik Syiem, Erwin Syiem Sutnga (Advocate), MDC of Namdong Dawan Lyngdoh, Waheh Chnong of different villages including Block-I villages and leaders of various NGOs.
It may be mentioned that the second phase of interstate boundary talks between the Assam and Meghalaya governments is due.
On Saturday, regional committees of the two Northeastern states had held a meeting in Guwahati.
