Power line falls on road, motorist killed in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH, July 26: A man in his 40s, identified as Neverson Nongkseh, met with a fatal accident on Wednesday while on his way from Umden to Umshaken village.
He was electrocuted to death.
The incident occurred around 2 pm during heavy rainfall, when a power cable fell on the road unbeknownst to the victim. Riding his bike, Neverson collided with the live cable, and died on the spot.
According to eyewitness accounts, the fallen power cable carried a high voltage charge, and upon impact, Neverson’s body was immediately affected, leading to severe burns. Tragically, he could not survive the incident.
Emergency services were quickly alerted and the local authorities rushed to the scene. Neverson’s body was subsequently transported to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination and other necessary formalities in accordance with the law.
The Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police, Giri Prasad, has confirmed the incident, and said that a team of police officers has been dispatched to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
