SHILLONG, July 27: The Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has stopped the illegal construction of a building at Harijan Colony, Them Iew Mawlong, after the HNYF East Khasi Hills served a two-day deadline to stop the same.
The MUDA secretary on Tuesday had issued a notice to one Phibora Marwein who was constructing the building at Thangkhiew Petrol Pump, Them Iew Mawlong.
The MUDA secretary said Marwein was constructing an RCC structure without taking prior building permission from the office and such act is unauthorised/ illegal.
“Hence, in this connection, you are instructed under Section 30-A of the Meghalaya Town & Country Planning Amendment Act, 2004 to stop further construction activities immediately and to show cause within 7 (Seven) days with effect from the date of issue of this notice, as to why action should not be initiated against you as per prevailing law. Non-compliance of the above will compel this office into taking necessary action as deemed fit”, the notice served to Marwein reads.
Earlier, HNYF East Khasi Hills president, Bless Dkhar had questioned the illegal construction in the light of the state government’s plan to relocate all the settlers from Them Iew Mawlong.
“We tried to seek clarification from both MUDA and SMB on the matter. But it was in vain,” Dkhar had said.
He had also stated that they might consider filing an FIR if no steps are taken to stop this illegal construction within the two-day deadline.
