SHILLONG, Aug 5: More than a year has passed since the one-man commission inquiry led by Justice T Vaiphei into the killing of Cheristerfield Thangkhiew submitted its probe report but the state government has so far not disclosed whether any action has been taken against the police personnel involved in the operation.
The inquiry committee had termed the operation that led to the killing of Thangkhiew as botched-up.
In April, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong had said that the government will decide the course of action after reviewing the explanation provided by the Tactical Team-I, which carried out the operation.
The tactical team has provided its explanation but the but there is no word on whether any action would be taken against the cops involved in the operation.
The explanation was sought by the state government after the report of the one-man commission was tabled in the Assembly’s autumn session last year.
The report stated that the operation was well-planned but poorly executed since the team was supposed to capture Thangkhiew alive.
The judicial inquiry was initiated by the state government after a massive law and order situation erupted in the state following the encounter of Thangkhiew at his residence in Mawlai in the wee hours of August 13 in the year 2021.
