Shillong, August 10: A recent gang rape incident has surfaced in Manipur as an FIR was lodged on Wednesday.

A 37-year-old woman reported that she was subjected to a gang rape by a group of Kuki men while attempting to escape from her home in Churachandpur during ethnic clashes on May 3.

In her police complaint, the woman described the harrowing experience. Amid the turmoil caused by Kuki miscreants setting fire to houses, including her own, she tried to flee with her niece and two sons, accompanied by her sister-in-law.

As per a report in India Today, she fell behind during their escape and was intercepted by five-six miscreants. Despite her resistance, she suffered physical assault and a brutal sexual attack.

“I received no assistance despite my pleas. More Kuki miscreants joined them, and I lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, I found myself in a house surrounded by Meitei people,” she recounted.

The FIR was filed at the Women’s Police Station in Bishnupur and subsequently forwarded to Churachandpur Police Station for further investigation. Following the complaint, a medical examination was conducted on the victim. She is currently residing in a relief camp for internally displaced individuals.
