Shillong, August 14: Security forces in Delhi have been placed on high alert following multiple intelligence inputs indicating plans for a terror strike during Independence Day celebrations.

The inputs, shared with security agencies, reveal that terror groups, including Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), are targeting security establishments and public areas like railway stations on August 15.

As per India Today, in addition to foreign organizations, intelligence agencies have also received information regarding potential security disruptions from domestic terror groups. As early as February this year, alerts were issued about efforts by Pakistan-based terrorist outfits to target sensitive locations in and around Delhi.

A report indicates that in May, a Pakistan-based operative linked to LeT instructed associates to conduct reconnaissance of significant sites in Delhi, encompassing major roads, railway facilities, Delhi Police offices, and the headquarters of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

An intelligence input referenced a video message released in May 2023, where an activist from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir claimed that JeM had plans to target Indian cities, including Delhi.

The primary threats to the Independence Day celebrations stem from “Pak-based terrorists and global jihadi outfits,” noted the intelligence agencies.
