I-Day honour for 21 Assam Police personnel

Guwahati, August 14: Eight police officials and personnel from Assam will be honoured with the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) while 13 other police officials and personnel from the state police force will be given the Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday.

Among the recipients of the PMG include deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Prakash Medhi; sub-inspector (SI) Latuk Das; sub-inspector (SI) Ritujyoti Nath; additional superintendent of police (ASP) Prakash Sonowal; sub-inspector (SI) Mwblik Brahma; constable Semson Taro; constable Joy Kiri Teron and constable Nabajyoti Roy.

On the other hand, the 13 police personnel who will be honoured with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service are Baksa superintendent of police Rajen Singh; Inspector (unarmed branch), Salbari police station, Baksa Rupjyoti Dutta; Deputy SP, Mandakata, Satish Kumar; Inspector (unarmed branch), Maibong police station, Dima Hasao, Dipen Pator; Sub-inspector (M), Dakurbhita, Raj Kumar Singh; Sub-inspector (UB), Guwahati, Kamaleswar Pandey; Assistant sub-inspector/CLK, Dakurbhita, Manoranjan Kakoti; Assistant sub-inspector (technical), Guwahati, H Bishow Chandra Singha; Havildar, Abhayapuri, Deben Chandra Borah; Constable (UB), Lakhimpur DEF, Indra Das; Havildar, Abhayapuri, Rajani Kanta Barman; Constable (UB), Sivasagar DEF, Diganta Baglari and Constable (UB), Bongaigaon, Nirala Bala Kachari.

“Heartiest congratulations to all the recipients of the Police Medal for Gallantry and Police Medal for Meritorious Service, announced on the occasion of Independence Day 2023. Your commitment inspires us all!” a post from the Twitter handle of Assam Police, read.

Meanwhile, four personnel from the Assam Police have been awarded the “Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation” for the year 2023.

They are DCP Surjeet Singh Panesar; Inspector Durga Kingkar Kumar; Inspector Ariful Haque and sub inspector M Thadoi Singha.

The four are among 140 personnel across the country who have been conferred the award.

The Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation was constituted in 2018 with the objective of promoting high professional standards of investigation of crime and recognising excellence in investigation.
