SHILLONG, Aug 14: The NEHUSU on Monday had closed down the administrative building of the university for a brief period of time in protest against the failure of the management to address the grievances of the students.
NEHUSU members also held a demonstration outside the Vice Chancellor’s office.
The students’ body is unhappy over the failure of the university administration to address the problem of Wi-Fi connectivity inside the campus for at least three weeks.
“The lackadaisical attitude on the part of the university administration is not acceptable. We are disappointed since this problem of Wi-Fi in the campus has cropped up at the time when the students are having their examinations,” NEHUSU finance secretary, Mandor B. Diengdoh Swer said.
According to him, the administration has assured in writing that they will address the issue by August 23.
Meanwhile, the NEHUSU finance secretary said the union is also not happy since muddy water is being supplied inside the campus including the hostels.
“We were surprised to find out that the four water filters which were there have not been used since the Covid-19 pandemic. We are not sure if these water filters are still functional,” he said.
Another issue raised was the provision for weekend bus services for the students.
Swer said the administration has not provided them with the list of routes through which the NEHU buses will be plying.
He said they will wait till August 23 to see if the university addresses their grievances.
“We will take drastic steps if the administration continues to overlook the grievances faced by the students,” he added.
