Shillong, August 17: Neeraj Ghaywan, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the well-received streaming series ‘Made in Heaven 2,’ recently shared an intriguing behind-the-scenes anecdote from his directorial debut ‘Masaan.’

The film featured notable Bollywood talents like Vicky Kaushal, Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi, and Shweta Tripathi Sharma.

In a conversation with IANS, Ghaywan revealed that a memorable scene from ‘Masaan,’ where Vicky Kaushal’s character poignantly utters, “Ye saala dukh kaahe khatam nahi hota be (why doesn’t the sorrow end)?” during his return from Cannes, was actually an improvisation by Vicky himself. What adds a unique twist to this improvisation is that Vicky enacted the scene while deliberately embracing the inebriation of his character, Deepak.

Ghaywan reflected on the challenges of the shoot, considering the constraints of an independent film’s budget, stating, “The controlled conditions on set were very few.”

In a particular segment of the scene, a train passes by in the background at a shallow depth, and Vicky spontaneously incorporates the opening lines of the song ‘Tu kisi rail si guzarti hai.’

The director emphasized Vicky’s creative brilliance in that moment, even though he was inebriated. The improvisation added a compelling layer to the scene, elevating its impact.

Recalling the shoot, Neeraj shared, “Vicky was drunk during that scene and he kept saying sorry for his actions although he did nothing wrong. It was a creative call for him to get drunk, and he performed exceptionally well.” This testament to Vicky Kaushal’s commitment to his role and his ability to enhance the emotional depth of the scene speaks volumes about his dedication as an actor.
