TURA, Aug 22: Job card holder from two village employment councils (VECs) under Selsella Block in West Garo Hills on Tuesday sought action as well as the filing of an FIR against the president and the Secretary of the said VECs for allegedly misappropriating several lakhs of MGNREGS funds for projects that were not executed.
The allegations by the job card holders were made against alleged self styled VEC Secretary, Lal Bahadur Islam of Haripur Part-I and one, Abdul Bashid Sarkar, another self styled President of Haripur Part-II VECs.
In their complaint to the Deputy commissioner who is also the District Programme Coordinator of MGNREGS, the job card holders alleged that the two VEC leaders took advantage of a temporary charge given to them following the dissolution of the two VECs after the elections.
According to the complainants, after the misappropriation of funds by the two leaders came to light, several orders and directions were issued by concerned officials on different occasions, but the same resulted in no positive action against the two defaulters.
The job card holders in their complaint to the Deputy Commissioner listed a number of different projects from where Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) funds to the tune of several lakhs took place.
Pointing out that the VEC leaders not only cheated the job card holders but also the State Government, the complainants have strongly demanded that an FIR be filed against the two leaders under appropriate sections of the IPC.
