Shillong, August 23: The Madhya Pradesh cabinet, led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has given the green light to the Maoist Surrender, Rehabilitation-cum-Relief Policy 2023.

This policy aims to reintegrate voluntarily surrendered Maoists into mainstream society and extend support to families affected by the repercussions of the red terror.

As per IANS, the recently approved Madhya Pradesh Naxalite Surrender, Rehabilitation-cum-Relief Policy 2023 focuses on offering constructive employment and entrepreneurial opportunities to those Maoists who have willingly surrendered. The policy, endorsed by the cabinet on Tuesday, is tailored to address the prevailing security scenario in the state.

The primary objective of the policy is to facilitate the transition of individuals who have chosen to abandon the path of violence. Key provisions of the policy include compensation for various aspects of rehabilitation. This encompasses Rs 1,50,000 for housing construction, ex-gratia ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 4,50,000 for surrendering arms, Rs 50,000 for marriage incentives, immediate need compensation of Rs five lakh for property purchase or declared prize money (whichever is higher), and Rs 20 lakh for property acquisition.

Vocational training will be supported with a compensation of Rs 1,50,000. Furthermore, families of surrendered Maoists will have access to benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Food Assistance Scheme.

For those affected by Maoist violence, provisions include a Rs 15 lakh payout to the victim’s family in case of a citizen’s death due to violence, Rs 20 lakh for the family of deceased security personnel, and Rs four lakh for physical disabilities. If a citizen dies in Maoist violence, the bereaved family will receive a Class III or IV job opportunity.

In cases of complete or partial damage to property due to Maoist violence, compensation of Rs 1,50,000 or up to Rs 50,000 respectively will be provided.

Additionally, the cabinet has sanctioned higher allowances for police officers and employees, along with an increase in dearness relief for state government pensioners and family pensioners effective from July 1, 2023.
