Nazareth Hospital gets NABH accreditation

Shillong, Aug 22: Nazareth Hospital, Shillong has achieved a significant feather in its cap by receiving the certificate of accreditation from National Accreditation Board for hospitals & Healthcare providers (NABH).
This rating has placed Nazareth Hospital amongst about 1000 hospitals from all over the country to achieve this accreditation. This has been achieved after compliance was assessed to hundreds of laid down standards.
NABH accreditation focuses on patient safety and quality of the services delivered by the hospitals in a changing healthcare environment. This accreditation is a testimony to the fulfillment by Nazareth Hospital towards these goals.
The accreditation will remain valid for four years. The process towards achieving NABH certification was started by Nazareth Hospital in 2016, when it received the entry level certification – the first hospital in Meghalaya to do so.
In the recent past, several new facilities have been started at Nazareth hospital. These include the state of the art modular OT complex which allows greater patient safety and convenience while complex surgeries are performed by specialists and super specialists, new labour room, new pediatrics ward, neonatal intensive care unit with greater number of beds, new pediatric intensive care unit.
At the same time, highly skilled human resources in the forms of neurosurgeons, pediatric surgeons and cardiologists have been inducted; in addition to so many others who offer their services to patients.
A significant addition to the existing services is MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) which is a non invasive medical imaging test that produces detailed images of almost every internal structure in the human body that include the organs, bones, muscles and blood vessels.
Laboratory services of Nazareth Hospital received NABL (National Accreditation Board for testing and calibration laboratories) certification in 2017 with biochemistry and pathology but have since progressed after several cycles of certification to include biochemistry, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, hematology and clinical pathology.
Laboratory accreditation is a procedure by which an authoritative body gives formal recognition of technical competence for specific tests and measurements, based on third party assessment and following international standards.
This certification is a testimony to the reliability of test results from Nazareth Hospital laboratory.
