Indian colts lose 1-6 to Germany, finish 2nd
DUSSELDORF (Germany), Aug 22: A below-par Indian junior men’s hockey team lost 1-6 against hosts Germany to finish runners-up at the four- Nations tournament here on Tuesday.Sudeep Chirmako (22nd minute) scored the lone goal for India.Germany’s goals came from the sticks of Florian Sperling (15th), Ben Hasbach (20th), Hugo von Montgelas (23rd), Fabio Seitz (38th), Nikas Berendts (41st), and Paul Glander (43rd).India started confidently after a 4-0 victory over England in their previous game. Chelsea’s Chukwuemeka undergoes left knee surgery
LONDON, Aug 22: Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has undergone surgery on a left knee injury he sustained in the loss to West Ham in the Premier League, the club said Tuesday.Chelsea did not put a timeframe on the likely return of the 19-year-old, who has just broken into the team a year after joining from Aston Villa.Chukwuemeka started against Liverpool on the opening weekend and scored a goal his first for Chelsea in the first half at West Ham before going off injured in the 45th minute. Mumbai to play Champions League home games in Pune
MUMBAI, Aug 22: Mumbai City FC will play its AFC Champions League home games at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune.The change in the venue is due to the present infrastructural set up at the Mumbai Football Arena, which makes it ineligible to host AFC Champions League games.Mumbai will set up its base in Pune for their three home games in the Group Stage of the AFC Champions League. With a rich history of hosting elite football, the Chhatrapati Sports Complex serves as the nearest football-specific stadium to Mumbai and allows Mumbai to maintain close proximity for fans to travel from Mumbai, the club informed in a release on Tuesday. Mumbai will find out their opponents at the group stage draw, scheduled to be held at the on August 24. Kandarp Chandra, CEO, Mumbai CFC said: “While all of us at Mumbai City FC are excited about a huge season ahead of us, we are very disappointed at not being able to bring Champions League football to Mumbai. Unfortunately, the current infrastructure in Andheri does not allow us to host games.“While we share the disappointment of our fans in Mumbai, we will spare no effort to ensure our supporters cherish a memorable matchday experience in Pune as we prepare to welcome fans to experience AFC Champions League football for the first time” (PTI)
