SHILLONG, Aug 24: A three-day training programme on ‘Resilient Infrastructure for Hilly Regions’ organised by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), in association with North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, came to an end on Thursday.
The programme witnessed the participation of 80 delegates from Northeastern states namely Sikkim, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya.
Various topics related to resilient infrastructure in hilly regions viz. terrain analysis, site selection, adaptive design, stability and safety, erosion control and drainage, roads and transportation, infrastructure and, climate resilience, community engagement, green infrastructure, multi-hazard approach and innovative technologies were covered.
The rigorious and comprehensive programme equipped the participants with invaluable insights into the intricacies involved in constructing and maintaining infrastructure within hilly terrains.
The valedictory programme started with a welcome speech followed by a short report from Associate Professor, Amir Ali Khan.
The trainees were divided into groups, each assigned a specific topic to explore around the campus. After conducting their assessments, each group presented their findings, and experts provided valuable suggestions based on these presentations.
The programme highlighted the significance of enhancing infrastructure resilience to address the challenges posed by hilly terrain and natural hazards. Attendees included distinguished experts, government officials, researchers, and students who collectively underscored the need for sustainable and adaptable infrastructure solutions.
The valedictory session ended with a vote of thanks offered by research Scholar, Department of Geology, NEHU, Mrinal Kanti Pathak and a positive feedback from the participants.
