SHILLONG, Aug 25: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Friday petitioned Health Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh and NEIGRIHMS director, Dr Nalin Mehta, opposing the institute’s sudden decision to recruit nursing officers through Nursing Officer Recruitment Eligibility Test (NORCET)-5.
The HYC said it received information that AIIMS, New Delhi, vide Notice No. 146/2023 dated 05.08.2023, invited applications through NORCET-5 for recruitment to the post of Nursing Officer for AIIMS, New Delhi and other AIIMS as per available vacancies in the respective institutes.
The last date for submission of online applications was till 5pm of August 25.
The examinations for the same were scheduled on September 17, 2023 {Online (CBT) for Stage I: NORCET Preliminary} and October 7, 2023 {Online (CBT) for Stage II: NORCET Mains}.
HYC president, Robertjune Kharjahrin said AIIMS, New Delhi suddenly by a notice (No 200/2023) posted on its website on August 25 informed that in continuation of the Notice No. 146/2023, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong is now a participating institute of NORCET-5 and that the last date for submission of online forms is extended to August 28, 2023.
According to him, the list of vacancies and eligibility criteria for recruitment at the institute has not been specified.
“We feel that this sudden deviation of NEIGRIHMS from the earlier practice of recruitment by the institute itself is an attempt to deny the local indigenous youth of the state an opportunity to be recruited as Nursing Officers in the institute,” the HYC president stated in the petition.
Moreover, he said the Notice No. 200/2023 is only uploaded on the official website of AIIMS, New Delhi and the time given for submission of application forms is very limited, not to speak about the fact that most of the local youths will be unaware of the said recruitment process in this short period of time.
The HYC president alleged this is a clear attempt by the institute to deny jobs to the local eligible youths in NEIGRIHMS.
Opposing it, the HYC demanded that the Notice No. 200/2023 issued by AIIMS New Delhi be cancelled and the recruitment process through NORCET-5 be put on hold for the time being.
“We also demand that NEIGRIHMS should give prior and wide publicity to the public before adopting such a new process and also provide awareness programmes to the youths in the state for appearing in such recruitment processes,” Kharjahrin said.
Further, he demanded that any advertisement/notice of recruitment in the future should be given in local newspapers for wide publicity.
The HYC president urged the Health Minister and the NEIGRIHMS director to consider their “just and reasonable demands” for the welfare of the youths of the state.
“We will be compelled to protest and agitate against the administration of NEIGRIHMS,” Kharjahrin said in the petition to the director.
