Meghalaya on course to implement NEP: H M Shangpliang

Shillong, August 29: Adviser to the Meghalaya Education Department, HM Shangpliang today said that the state government plans to implement National Education Policy (NEP) even at the secondary and higher secondary level.

While speaking to reporters, Shangpliang said that they already have constituted the Education Commission and there are other committees which are already in the pipeline, like the textbook Review Committee.

According to him, the textbook review committee will also take into consideration a lot of suggestions and recommendations to be made to the government to bring in a new syllabus and new curriculums with a textbook containing a lot of local contents.

He said that they were exercising to bring in NCERT books through the MBoSE.

He said that implementation of the NEP has already started at the college level as various colleges in the state have also already taken up the implementation.

When reminded of the opposition of the NEHUTA and MCTA to the decision of NEHU to implement NEP from the current session, Shangpliang said that they would like to leave it to the wisdom of the Vice Chancellor because he has learned that VC has initiated talks with the MCTA.

He also said that the government had already made its stand very clear on the NEP.
