SHILLONG, Aug 29: The Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) is yet to decide on the invitation of NEHU Vice Chancellor, Prabha Shankar Shukla for an open discussion to iron out differences on the issue of the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The MCTA had resorted to a non-cooperation movement against the NEHU’s “hasty” and “ill-conceived” announcement on NEP’s implementation.
“We saw it in the media but we have not taken any consideration regarding that press release. We are yet to take a call because I will not be able to respond to any press release or anything of that sort without taking it into the meeting,” MCTA general secretary Airpeace W Rani said.
He said the MCTA will convene a meeting in a day or two and the matter will be placed there. “Let’s see what we can do,” he said.
“We submitted an official representation and till date, we haven’t received any reply officially from the office of the VC,” he said.
In a statement issued to the media on Monday, Shukla appealed to the MCTA to reconsider its approach in the interest of the students who are from all over the Northeast.
He expressed his willingness to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve any concerns and invited the members of the MCTA for an open discussion to find an amicable solution.
He emphasised that the adoption of the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) was a significant stride towards holistic education. He expressed confidence that this transformative step would pave the way for a brighter and more enriching academic journey for the students.
Shukla lauded the resolute commitment displayed by the affiliated colleges in swiftly adopting FYUP as envisioned in NEP.
