VEC refutes claims of fund misuse
TURA, Aug 31: The President and Secretary of Haripur VEC West Garo Hills on Thursday refuted the allegation of fund misappropriation made against them by job card holders claiming that vested interests persons had instigated them to file the complaint. President , Abdul Bashid Sarkar and secretary Lal Bahadur Islam, clarified that allegations that several lakh of MGNREGS funds were misused by them is incorrect as the wage money is credited only to individual bank accounts of job car holders leaving no room for such malpractices. The VEC leaders also rubbished the ‘self styled leaders’ informing that they were elected as per rules by job card holders. In the clarification, the leaders also claimed that the complaint against them was made by only a section of job card holders and that a majority of them were in support of their leadership.
Asha School celebrates silver jubilee
SHILLONG, Aug 31: Asha School, a special school which looks after the needs of differently-abled children celebrated its Silver Jubilee on Thursday, at 58 Gorkha Training Centre, Shillong. The celebration was marked by a cultural extravaganza where Army Wives Welfare Association (AAWA) Zonal President, Nivedita Malik, was present as the chief guest along with Lt Gen Sanjay Malik, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 101 Area. The school is registered with Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment which not only caters to the needs of the Armed Forces personnel but also has a total of 14 children with special needs from local areas. Parents, teachers and students of other schools also attended the function. Malik praised the school management committee for its efforts in providing the children with the best of facilities and for making it one of the best special needs school in the region.
State govt introduces lottery in WB
SHILLONG, Aug 31: The Meghalaya government has introduced what it claims to be the most transparent and winnable lottery, in the state of West Bengal. A notification issued by the Director of Meghalaya State Lottery said that the ‘Meghalaya State Singham Lottery’ has the highest odds for winning as prizes are determined only by the digits and not along the serial letter. “This allows us to have 52 first prize winners per draw,” the order said, while adding that it commenced on Wednesday in West Bengal. It also says that Meghalaya State Lottery aims to lead by example by becoming the symbol of transparency as this will be the ‘most regulated lottery’.
Unclaimed body at Shillong CH
SHILLONG, Aug 31: A sixty-three-year-old man identified as S Dey was admitted to Civil Hospital Shillong on August 28 who passed away the next day. The concerned relatives have been asked to collect the body within three days, failing which it will be sent for disposal.
Natl Lok Adalat in Tura on Sept 9
TURA, Aug 31: The District Legal Services Authority will be organizing the National Lok Adalat on September 9th, 2023 from 10:00 am onwards at the West Garo Hills District & Sessions Court premises at Tura.
