USTM remembers PA Sangma on his 76th Birth Anniversary

 Guwahati, Sept 1: The University of Science and Technology-Meghalaya today fondly remembered Late P A Sangma, the former Lok Sabha Speaker, former Chief Minister of Meghalaya as an exemplary statesman and source of inspiration at a solemn function held at NKC Auditorium of the university on the occasion of his 76th Birth Anniversary today.

USTM Chancellor M Hoque, Vice Chancellor Prof GD Sharma, other officers and a large number of students and staff of the university participated in the celebration and paid floral tribute to this great personality.

Addressing the gathering, Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor of USTM said that Late Sangma has been an all-time inspiration and great support to USTM since its inception. In his memory, the USTM is now coming up with the PA Sangma International Medical College and Hospital, a state-of-the-art multi-specialty hospital and college that has been recently approved by the Meghalaya Cabinet.

Foundation for the medical college was laid in 2022 by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and construction work for the same is going on in full swing.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof GD Sharama said, “At USTM, Late PA Sangma Sir’s memories are treasured also in the form of a Chair for Tribal Research and one university block is named after him. We are doing this so that the future generations remember this great national personality from the North East and get inspired by his deeds and ideals to keep on doing good work”.

He said that PA Sangma was an exemplary statesman, founder of NPP—the first national political party in the North East and a popular political leader.
