US President Biden to hold bilateral meeting with PM Modi during G20 summit

Shillong, September 2: The White House has announced that US President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit India next week to participate in the G20 Summit. On September 8, he will engage in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the historic event.

India, the current President of the G20, is hosting this global gathering in New Delhi on September 9 and 10.

As per India Today, during the Summit, President Biden will express his appreciation for PM Modi’s leadership within the G20, according to the White House.

The official statement from the White House reads, “On Thursday (September 7), the President will travel to New Delhi, India to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit. On Friday, the President will participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

The two leaders will also address the economic and social repercussions of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine. Additionally, they will work to enhance the capabilities of multilateral development banks, including the World Bank, to combat poverty and address global challenges.

“While in New Delhi, the President will also commend Prime Minister Modi’s leadership of the G20 and reaffirm the US commitment to the G20 as the premier forum of economic cooperation, including by hosting it in 2026,” the statement further stated.

The G20, comprising major developed and developing economies, is an international forum. Currently, India holds the rotating presidency of this multinational group.

The G20 includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union (EU).

Guest countries participating in the summit are Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain, and the UAE.
