Rape accused gets 10 years RI

JOWAI, Sep 4: In a long drawn out verdict, the session’s court of West Jaintia Hills has delivered justice in a 2001 rape case. The court has convicted Dri Phawa guilty of raping a minor in 2001 and awarded him with 10 years rigorous imprisonment.
On May 26, 2001 an FIR was filed by the victim’s mother, Kmen Sana alleging that Phawa, a resident of Myrjai village had raped her minor daughter. The case was registered in Jowai Police Station before the officer in-charge.
Subsequently a case was registered at the Jowai Police station under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. The case was further investigated by Assistant Inspector W Vaichei following which a charge sheet was filed against the accused.
