M’laya honours teachers across state on special day

Shillong/Nongstoin/Nongpoh/Jowai/Tura, Sep 5: Meghalaya joined hands with the rest of the country to celebrate the 62nd Teacher’s Day by organising various programmes and honouring teachers of the state at U Soso Tham Auditorium, here on Tuesday.
As a tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society, the event was celebrated with great fervour and exuberance in the presence of Education Minister, Rakkam A Sangma as the chief guest.
14 teachers received the state teachers’ award, while district award was conferred on 36 teachers from across the state.
Teachers who received the State Teacher’s Award are V Dipali Sharma Rao, Principal, Laban Assamese Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Belinda Kharsati, Head Teacher, Pomlahier L.P School, Sisingh Ryntong, Asst. Teacher, New Nongstoin ‘B’ Govt. L P School, Apborsing L Mawlong, Asst. Teacher, Tirot Sing Memorial Govt. U P School, Nongkhlaw, Kwirin

U P School, Tuber Kmaishnong, Golak Chandra Medhi, Asst. Lecturer, Jirang Govt. Higher Secondary School, New Jirang, Babansing Ch. Sangma, Head Teacher, Rongreng Baiza Govt. L.P School, Wilton Marak, Headmaster, Daram Govt. UP School, Frederick R Sangma, Headmaster, Dobasipara U P School, Manoj Kumar Prasad, Asst. Teacher, Montfort Centre for Education (Sec), Mirabella G Sangma, Head Teacher-Cum Secretary, Chengkompara Nokat Govt. L P School and Nozmul Arefin, Vice Principal, Baghmara Govt. Higher Secondary School.
Sangma congratulated Madhav Singh, Senior Science Teacher of Alpha English Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh for being conferred the National Teacher Award 2023.
Various Special projects under SSA; the website of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Adopt a School Campaign and PM e-Vidya Meghalaya were also inaugurated by the minister on the occasion.
Sangma said that education is one of the pillars which contribute towards building a great nation. Teachers play a crucial and vital role in realising these goals by nurturing our young minds to be a better person in a society, to perform both academically and intellectually and reach a pinnacle of success.
Acknowledging that teachers face numerous other challenges such as pay disparity and untimely disbursement of salary, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment and continuous efforts in addressing these issues.
He also stressed on the need for teachers to come up with various innovative methods for holistic development of the students.
From East Khasi Hills, the district award was presented to Dr. Careen E G Marbaniang, Assistant Teacher, Mawkhar Christian HS School, for the Secondary Section Wallamkupar Lynrah, Assistant Teacher, Mawsiatkhnam Prebyterian U P School (SSA) for the Upper Primary Section and Dafrit Nongkynrih, Assistant Teacher, Tynring Govt. LP School, Tynring for the Lower Primary Section.
Special Award 2023 (Inclusive School) was conferred upon Berrilang Nongrum, Special Educator, Mary Rice Centre for Special Education, Laitumkhrah, Dilip Kumar Mangar, St. Anthony’s HS School, Shillong and Miniefer Syiemlieh, KJP Girls’ HS School, Shillong received the Best Scoutmaster and Guide Captain 2023 respectively.
Nongstoin
Here, the programme was organised by District School Education Officer West Khasi Hills at Bishop Hall, New Nongstoin.
The day witnessed the felicitation of six teachers who have rendered valuable services in the fields of education in the district, Sisingh Ryntong, Assistant Teacher, New Nongstoin ‘B’ Govt, LP School, State Award 2023, where-as, Sylvester Syiemlieh, Assistant Teacher, St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School, Pyndengrei, (Secondary Level), Bertila Dkhar, Headmistress Mawrang UP School (Upper Primary Level) and Celina Shangpliang, Head Teacher, Secret Heart RCLP. Schools (Lower Primary Level) were conferred with District Award 2023.
Also, Olbestar Kharsyntiew, Assistant Teacher, BPL Secondary School, Mawphetkhlam as Best Scout Master and Daria Iawren, Assistant Teacher, Sibsing Memorial Higher Secondary School, Nongpyndeng as Best Guide Captain.
School students from different schools of the district mesmerised the programme of the day with action songs, skit, traditional dance, drama etc.
Nongpoh
In Ri-bhoi, the event was at the Parish Hall. MLA Mayralborn Syiem graced the programmme as the chief guest.
Three teachers, P Chettri, Assistant Teacher at Nehru Memorial Hr. Sec. School in Umsning, B. Rympei, Assistant Teacher at Mynken Govt. UP School in Mynken, and J.M. Sun, Head Teacher at Umsning L P School in Umsning were presented with the district award for their exceptional contributions.
Additionally, meritorious students from the district who secured top positions in the SSLC and HSSLC examinations of 2023 were also honored.
The day was made all the more enjoyable with captivating performances, including songs, dances, and skits, presented by school children.
Mawkyrwat
The district celebrated the day at Maharam Govt. Higher Secondary School Auditorium, where Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills T Lyngwa attended as the chief guest.
During the programme, Kenny Mathew Majaw, Assistant Teacher, Nativity Higher Secondary School was awarded the Best Scout Master while Insyrpaihun Kharlyngdoh, Assistant Teacher Jingiaseng Kynthei Mawkyrwat Presbytery as the Best Guide Captain.
Award were also conferred on Crispin Wahlang, Assistant Teacher Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Mawlangwir, Phimlandstar Thongni, Assistant Teacher, Nongtynniaw Deficit Upper Primary School and Earnest Marwein, Assistant Teacher of Jakrem Govt. Lower Primary School while Kwirin Diengdoh, Headmaster of Mawsaw Govt. Upper Primary School, were conferred the State Award.
Jowai
In Jaintia Hills, the day was celebrated at the District Library Auditorium and was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar as the chief guest.
In the Secondary Level the district award was conferred to Wanhok Lamar, Vice Principal, QC Springside Hr. Sec. School, Upper Primary Level to Ohiwot Laloo, Assistant Teacher, Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Jowai, Lower Primary level to Hilarious Manner, Head Teacher, Umladkhur Government LP School, Khonglah.
Best Scout Master was awarded to Jonas K Pala, Tome Memorial Scout Troop/ Sec. School, Mooralong, Jowai and best guide captain to Dolly Lamare, Little Angels Guide Company/ Sec. School, Moosalyngkat, Jowai.
Garo Hills
In Garo Hills, special programmes and functions were organised to mark the special day of the teachers.
The celebration ended with a high note in Tura as dignitaries and guests showered praise and appreciation on the teaching fraternity at a grand function organised at the Tura district auditorium.
The teachers who were conferred the district awards were Satal A Sangma, Teacher, Masumata Government L P School, Purida I Sangma, Headmistress, Chitoktak U P School, Tura, Subrata Sen (secondary section), Ningban R Marak, Scout Master, Garo Union Higher Secondary School, Tura and Sarikha A Sangma, Guide Captain, Little Flower Secondary School, Tura. The day long programme saw performance of special numbers by Tura Public School and KGBV, Jengjal.
In South West Garo Hills the day was celebrated at the Multi Facility Centre in Ampati, with utmost enthusiasm and respect.
The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including Sanjay A Sangma, MLA of Mahendraganj and Chairman of Meghalaya Board Directors Infratech & Innovation Corporation Limited, who served as the chief guest.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the presentation of district award to teachers who have made remarkable contributions in their field.
