Meghalaya Cabinet approves State Water Informatics Centre

Shillong, Sept 12:  Meghalaya Cabinet today to discussed and gave its approval to several issues as mentioned here as per the information provided by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma :

• Establishment of the State Water Informatics Centre, Meghalaya with the Department of Water Resources as the Lead Department. The State Water Informatics Centre will be the agency that will document information related to waterbodies including watersheds, spring sheds etc., and monitor them throughout the year, share the data with concerned Departments so that proper informative decisions can be made as mandated by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

• Termination of two Hydro Power Projects signed by GoM years ago namely, the Kynshi-I Hydro Electric Power Project and the Upper Khri Stage-I and Stage-II Projects. The two projects were in collaboration with private parties but due to financial non-viability and delay in implementation of the projects by the companies, Cabinet decided to terminate the projects. The Govt. will immediately move for new partnerships with a new format to implement the projects.

• Amendment to the National Law University of Meghalaya (Amendment) Bill, 2023. The amendment proposes a change in the structure of the Finance Committee of the University was proposed and nomenclatures that has to be changed in line with the Act. The same will be presented in the State Assembly.

• Proposal for creation of an Engineering Wing in Police Headquarters, Shillong. Meghalaya Police has a large number of infrastructure in the State and hence, in order to allow the Department to handle the necessary renovations of administrative and residential buildings, an Engineering Wing was required to facilitate construction and renovation works within the Department.

• 3 ordinances passed by the Govt. that were brought to the Cabinet today as Bills will be put up in the Autumn Session of the State Assembly namely—
1. Proposal to repeal Rajitlal University Act 2011
2. Amendment of the Meghalaya GST Act 2017
3. Meghalaya Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2023
