Tura, Sep 15: The opposition to the stone quarry at Budugre, Chokpot in South Garo Hills on Friday took a new turn with the A’king Nokma along with his chras filing an FIR claiming that forged documents were produced by the quarry owner, to get the necessary papers from concerned authorities permitting the activity at the site.

The FIR was filed by Budugre A’king Nokma, A R Sangma at Chokpot thana, where he alleged that owner of the quarry Alpha D Marak forged the signature in the No Objection Certificate and in the Nokma document for land produced by one, Morphine R Marak for land patta.

“We never gave any NOC or Nokma document of 36 bighas which we came to know through an RTI. The signature in the document is not mine and the seal seems to have been scanned. These documents are unlawfully forged depriving us of our constitutional rights and exploiting our ignorance,” the Nokma claimed, in the FIR.

According to the Nokma, it was also evident that whoever forged the NOC were unaware of the boundaries as the boundaries mentioned in the document extends to the whole of Budugre A’king which he added, was unlikely for any Nokma to sign.

The nokma also alleged that Morphine R Marak, in whose land the quarry was being operated, also forged his signature in the nokma document staking claim to 36 bighas.

“He applied for patta with that document which was issued by the GHADC. These are unlawful activities which have gravely affected not only the villagers but also the environment, the wildlife and the streams. We urged that immediate action be taken in this regard,” the Nokma said, in the FIR.
