Narrow escape for six as fire razes vehicle

SHILLONG, Sep 17: Six occupants of a vehicle (AS01 FB 0726), including the driver, had a narrow escape after the vehicle they were travelling in caught fire along the Shillong-Jowai road at Laitkor Nongmadan on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred when the passengers was on their way to Laitlum, police said.
Police quoted the driver as saying that he stopped the vehicle after detecting smoke coming out of the engine. The cause of the fire is said to be due to problems with the wiring.
All the occupants rushed out of the vehicle before the fire engulfed the vehicle.
Police said the vehicle was gutted before fire tenders arrived on the spot.
