SHILLONG, Sep 20: VPP MLA Ardent M Basaiawmoit on Wednesday lamented that Meghalaya was being ruled by “Kumars”.
Raising a short duration discussion on appointment of A Ali as the full-fledged secretary of Meghalaya State Council of Technical Education (MSCTE), Basaiawmoit said, “After attaining Statehood, we had expectations that Lyngdohs, Sangmas, Marbaniangs and Kharkongors would govern us. However, we have landed up being ruled by Kumars.”
Alleging that Ali’s appointment was not as per norms and was ethically wrong, he asked the government to reconsider its decision. “People from outside have to be respected but the government must first respect its own people.”
In his response, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma denied the allegations and maintained that the appointment did not violate any norms and procedures.
Stating that the government considered the experience and expertise of the incumbent, Sangma said the government wants to give the best to the people. “It is very important to look at the bigger perspective…experience matters,” he said.
