Indian squash teams begin 19th Asian Games with convincing wins

Shillong, September 26: Indian women’s and men’s squash teams kicked off their 19th Asian Games campaign with impressive victories in their respective Pool stage matches.

As per IANS, in the women’s event, 15-year-old Anahat Singh, an under-15 and under-17 Asian champion, set the tone with a 3-0 victory in the first match of the Pool B tie against Pakistan. She defeated Sadia Gul with scores of 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 in just 18 minutes. Ace player Joshana Chinappa continued India’s dominance, winning the second rubber 3-0 (11-2, 11-5, 11-7) against Noor Ul Huda Sadiq. Tanvi Khana sealed the tie for India with a 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-2) victory over Noor Ul Ain.

The Indian women’s team is scheduled to face Nepal and Macao on Tuesday before taking on Malaysia in their final Pool B match on Wednesday.

In the men’s event, the Indian team outplayed Singapore 3-0 in their Pool A tie. Harinder Singh Sandhu secured an early lead for India with a 3-1 (11-4, 13-11, 8-11, 11-7) victory over Jerome Clement Jin Ming. Sourav Ghosal extended the lead, defeating Samuel Kang Shan Mu 3-0 (11-9, 11-1, 11-4). Abhay Singh sealed the tie with a 3-0 (11-7, 11-7, 11-7) win over Marcus Phua Jia Hui.

The Indian men’s team is set to face Qatar in their second Pool A match later in the day.
