NONGSTOIN, Sep 28: The FKJGP and HYC West Khasi Hills District have raised concerns over the four-day cleaning drive launched by the West Khasi Hills district administration as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2023 campaign from Thursday to Sunday.
They have demanded that the cleaning drive should not be held on Sunday as it is a sacred day for Christians in the district and the state as a whole.
On Sunday, the cleaning drive is expected to extend to Nonbah river, Upper New Nongstoin, and Nongstoin Market, New Nongstoin.
A delegation of the FKJGP and HYC West Khasi Hills met the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills on Thursday and sought the postponement of the cleaning drive to Monday.
The organisation has urged the public and government employees not to take part in the cleaning drive on Sunday as a mark of protest against the government.
