SHILLONG, Sep 28: Nongthymmai-Lumthangding village in East Khasi Hills has remained without a Rangbah Shnong for the past one year and four months allegedly due to the failure of the Sirdar of Elaka Laitlyngkot to abide by the directive of KHADC.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, former Rangbah Shnong of the village, Tarcius Dkhar said that they have submitted several petitions to the Council in a bid to apprise the KHADC about the village not having a Rangbah Shnong.
According to him, the Council on many occasions has asked the Sirdar of Elaka Laitlyngkot, Allenson Shabong, to hold the meeting of the Dorbar Shnong of the village for election of the Rangbah Shnong.
The delegation of the village on Wednesday even met Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM), Pynshngain N Syiem seeking his intervention in the matter. The ex-Rangbah Shnong said that his tenure had ended in 2022.
Replying to a query, he said that the Sirdar of Elaka Laitlyngkot had told them that he is unable to hold the meeting of the Dorbar Shnong as two names were proposed by the villagers for election to the post of the Rangbah Shnong.
