MCA announces squad for BCCI’s Senior Women’s T20 Trophy

SHILLONG, Sep 28: The Meghalaya Cricket Association today named a 15-member squad and five standbys for the BCCI’s Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. Meghalaya’s matches will take place in Vadodara, with the first against Pondicherry on 19 October. The other teams in the challenging group are Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Bengal, Chandigarh, Saurashtra and Uttar Pradesh.The players selected by the MCA’s Senior Women Selection Committee have carved out a name for themselves over the past few years as the best in the state and will get to test their mettle against some of the biggest teams in the country. U-19 Boys Cricket: Tura knock WJH out for place in final

SHILLONG, Sep 28: Tura District Cricket Association defeated West Jaintia Hills DCA by six wickets to become the first team to reach the final of the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-19 Boys Inter District Cricket Tournament after the first semifinal in Salpara, Mendipathar, today. Winning the toss and batting first did not work out so well for WJH, who eked out a modest 116/9 in the allotted 40 overs. Although there were fairly decent contributions by Ewanmidao Pyrtuh (24) and Dawanchwami Passah (25). Ben Haden N Marak bowled 5 overs for figures of 3/9 as he cleaned up the tail. Fernando Barbaryo M Sangma (2/21) and Denikcheng Marak (2/25) claimed a brace each.WJH had some early successes with the ball thanks to Chwamiki Ryngkhlem, who bagged 3/27, and Tura were on 29/4 in the 10th over before Shahin Alone (52 from 47 deliveries, 3x4s, 5x6s) and Jhon Venny (27 and 64, 2x4s) came together and dominated the bowling in an unbeaten partnership of 88 runs that saw Tura to victory in 24.5 overs. On Friday, at the same venue, will witness the second semifinal between Zone 2 toppers East Garo Hills DCA versus Zone 1 Group A winners Shillong Cricket Association A.

 

MMA fighters from state to participate in Nagaland

SA skipper Bavuma returns home due to personal reasons

Lingard training with Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq
RIYADH, Sep 28: Former Manchester United player Jesse Lingard could be the next Premier League star to join the Saudi Arabian league.The England international, who is a free agent, is training with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of the last season.Al-Ettifaq is coached by Liverpool great Steven Gerrard and signed England midfielder Jordan Henderson in the off-season.“I’ve watched him for many years, so I’m aware of the talent,” Gerrard told reporters. “Jesse is out of a club at the moment, he is not contracted, so he’s free to train with anyone else.
