Tura, Sep29: One of the best educational institutes of the Garo Hills region, Aeroville Higher Secondary School celebrated its 30th Foundation Day today amidst much fanfare and festivity at an elaborate function organised at the district auditorium in Tura.
A formal program celebrating its ‘Foundation Day’ was followed by a daylong cultural program with 70% of the students showcasing their talents in performing arts such as singing, dancing, skits etc.
The daylong program included felicitation of student achievers who excelled in sports during state level competitions.
Aeroville Higher Secondary School, Tura was established on Feb 23, 1993 with the objective to give quality education to the children of Tura and its adjoining areas.
The school started with classes from nursery to class 4 with strength of 7 teachers and 94 students and was managed by a committee headed by Lt. Mihir N Sangma and Dr Viola Sonachi B Sangma as Secretary along with few other members.
The school was upgraded to class 10 in the year 1999 and got its affiliation to MBOSE on Oct 1, 2003. It has continued to create history by securing 100% pass percentage in the Board examinations since its inception till date.
The school had a humble beginning starting out from the residence of its founding member Dr Viola Sonachi B Sangma, consisting of only two rooms. Dr Sangma served as the Honorary Headmistress of the school for 14 years and was relieved by present Headmistress Sane C B Sangma in 2007. The school was upgraded from Secondary to Higher Secondary with Arts and Commerce streams in June 17, 2017 and gained full-fledged recognition on Jun 23, 2020.
In its 30 years of being the school has produced a huge number of rank holders in the SSLC Board examinations. It now boasts of a three storied building housing 17 classrooms, two staff rooms, auditorium, library, computer room, science laboratory and two school buses.
The Headmistresses room and the office room are under construction and nearing completion. It now has 38 teaching staff and 14 non teaching staff.
Additional Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Tura Municipal Board, Rikse R Marak, MCS, attended the gathering as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering she stated that the school’s reputation for strict discipline and excellence in imparting education was well known throughout the region. Congratulating the school authorities for achieving this milestone the CEO expressed her gratitude for the services the institution was providing the society.
Founding member and Secretary, Management and Administration, Aeroville Higher Secondary School, Tura, Dr Viola Sonachi B Sangma, stressed that the need for quality education that focused on disciplined instruction, drove the founding members to establish a school. Recalling the hardships faced by her as a founding member, she stated that when funds were short she had to take it out of her own pocket to make ends meet.
Earlier, Headmistress, Aeroville Higher Secondary School, Sane C B Sangma recalled the huge vestment of time and energy made by many founding members to strengthen the school’s growth. The school now has over 700 students.
“We believe in imparting holistic education to enable students to bring out the best inherent qualities within them. We not only aim to showcase various talents but also to recognize and nurture them, paving a way to live a meaningful and purposeful life,” said the principal.
