Guwahati, Oct 3: Assam University, Silchar has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) here with the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam for awarding graduation degrees to eligible ex-servicemen.

The MoU was signed by Pradosh Kiran Nath, registrar, Assam University and Brig (retd) Dinesh Chandra Mazumdar, director, Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam in the presence of chancellor Air Chief Marshal (retd) Arup Raha and Rajive Mohan Pant, vice chancellor of the university on Tuesday.

“The move aims to empower our ex-servicemen who have dedicated a large part of their youth with unflinching dedication and devotion to duty while missing out in obtaining civil education,” PRO (defence), Guwahati, said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

“The armed forces produce highly disciplined and competitive professionals by imparting training in different disciplines which helps these personnel to develop confidence, improve personality and leadership qualities.  They are conversant in modern technology and are good in administration,” the PRO (defence) said.

The UGC-recognised graduation degrees will also empower the ex-servicemen to prove their skills and capabilities in their re-employment.

“The MoU with Assam University, Silchar will therefore be one of the most beneficial welfare measures for these ex-servicemen assisting them in their rehabilitation. It will empower our ex-servicemen to be eligible for various jobs for which 2 percent reservation has been sanctioned by the chief minister in the Rajya Sainik Board (RSB) meeting,” the PRO (defence) said.
