SHIILONG, Oct 2: It was a homecoming of mixed emotions for members of happyredroosterMMA who represented Meghalaya at Apex Combat – a National MMA tournament – held in Dimapur on September 30.
Out of the five fighters, Jeff Diengdoh, Gregory F Sohtun and debutant Kedokiteuo Sirie returned home with resounding victories.
Remy Kharshandi, for whom this was supposed to be a final fight, sustained a broken forearm, resulting in a doctor’s stoppage.
“I guess I’m going to have to recover and rethink this being my last fight. No fighter wishes to go out this way. Maybe, one more…” Remy said.
National champion Darren Kharshandi, who made his debut as a professional MMA fighter, lost his bout via a split decision rendered by the judges, which left the crowd surprised, obviously in disagreement.
The team was led by Coaches Isaiah Kharmawphlang, Reuben Lulam and Echwamida O Phawa.
