SHILLONG, Oct 14: The U Soso Tham auditorium on Saturday resonated with power as two groups of empowered women walked the ramp in a show of blitz and glamour, competing for the titles of Miss Shillong 2023 and Miss Supermom 2023.
The Miss Supermom 2023 pageant concluded with Genevieve Wahlang emerging as the winner, while the first runner-up title was secured by Jessica Nongkynrih and following closely behind was Mary Saleen Mawphlang who emerged as the second runner-up.
Beyond the glitz and glamour, this beauty pageant aimed to provide single mothers with a platform to shine, exemplifying their strength in facing life’s myriad challenges.
Parallelly, another group of young women vied for the title of Miss Shillong 2023. Chaivalry Lartang emerged victorious while Rachel Rimeika Jyrwa claimed the first runner-up title and Rebecca Nongkhlaw gracefully clinched the second runner-up position.
The competition for Miss Shillong 2023 featured rounds that included an evening gown walk and a rigorous question and answer session with the judges.
The winners of Miss Shillong 2023 were honored with designer crowns and cash prizes of Rs. 1 Lakh, Rs. 75,000, and Rs. 50,000 respectively, while the Ms Supermom winner received a designer crown and rewarding cash prize of Rs. 50,000. The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) handed down the cash prizes to the winners.
To keep the audience captivated, the talented Liza Lyngdoh from Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills District, graced the stage with a mesmerizing performance that had the crowd swaying in delight.
Along with a traditional sequence, the participants of both the titles danced to exciting numbers that was choreographed by Ribha war Lyngkhoi and the grand finale was put together by Chris Kurbah and Naphisha Pala.
The event also recognised several subtitles awarded to the Miss Shillong contestants, such as Miss Beautiful Skin, Beautiful Hair, Beautiful Eyes, Beautiful Smile, and Miss Catwalk. Rachel Rimeika Jyrwa, Rimika Dkhar, Rebecca Nongkhlaw, Kelly Marrian Nongbri, and Cafiliea Namika Sylliang were the recipients, respectively.
The panel of judges included State Art and Culture Department Director, Frederick Kharkongor, Wanisha Lyngdoh, the first Miss Shillong back in the year 1983, Iba Warjri and Batista Lyngdoh Mawphlang.
