Shillong, October 16: The Congress party has voiced concerns over the government’s alleged attempt to exploit the Army for political purposes, deeming it a dangerous move.

In a statement posted on social media, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh emphasized that the Indian Army is an institution belonging to the entire nation, priding itself on its apolitical stance.

As per IANS, Ramesh accused the central government of making a feeble effort to boost its political image through the Army, following a period marked by inflation, unemployment, and a multitude of governance failures.

“This attempt to politicize the army is a very dangerous step,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.

“We request President Draupadi Murmu ji, the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, to intervene in this matter and direct the Modi government to immediately withdraw this wrong step,” Ramesh added.

This development provides the Congress party with fresh ammunition to critique the government, particularly regarding its handling of initiatives such as the Agnipath scheme, OROP (One Rank, One Pension), and the disability pension scheme.
