‘Sohphlang Festival’ in Mawkynrew

Shillong, Oct 17: The first ‘Sohphlang Festival’ will be organised by the Seng Samla Catholic church, Mawkynrew at Holy Cross School, on October 21.
Talking to reporters, organisation president, Pynbiang Kshiar said that they are trying to promote the indigenous fruit ‘Sohphlang’ or Flemingia vestita which is famous in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region. According to him, this is the first time that a festival on the particular fruit is being organised in the state.
Kshiar informed that the festival is being sponsored by the Tourism department in collaboration with the Agriculture department and Meghalaya Age.
The organisation said that they will also set up various stalls to showcase agricultural produce and indigenous food prepared by the villagers of Mawkynrew.
