NONGSTOIN, Oct 18: The apathetic attitude of the authorities towards schools in the state has come to light once again.
Pyndengkirit Government LP School in Mawshynrut Block under Mawshynrut Civil Subdivision in West Khasi Hills is one such school that has been neglected by the government.
This school is bereft of tables and chairs, besides a proper school building, kitchen, as well as safe drinking water. It has also not received the benefits of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme since 2017.
Parents and local residents have repeatedly complained about the situation. In view of their cries, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) recently conducted a spot inspection and confirmed the allegations.
On Wednesday, a KSU Mawshynrut delegation led by its general secretary Ulyses Ryntong met the Sub Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) Nongstoin and demanded immediate action.
The SDSEO assured the delegation that she would take steps to address the issues at the earliest.
