Appeal for media centre in Jowai

SHILLONG, Oct 19: The Jaintia Students Movement (JSM) Central Body has urged the state government to fulfil the demand for a media centre in Deputy Commissioner’s office, Jowai, for media personnel of Jaintia Hills region in view of the inauguration of the permanent complex of the District and Session Court, West Jaintia Hills District, in Khliehtyrchi on Thursday.
The organization pointed out they have made the demand in a memorandum submitted to Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on September 14 this year with a copy of it handed over to the respective offices of the Chief Minister and the Information and Public Relation Minister.
According to JSM president LS Rymbai, there are several media persons working in Jaintia Hills region and the government has reportedly provided a media centre for press people at the Main Secretariat, Shillong, “Hence, we demand a media centre for media persons in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills.”
Rymbai said in the memorandum the JSM has stated that the District & Session Court, Jowai, is currently housed in DC’s Office, Jowai. Once the premises is vacated, it will be the right to set up the media centre in DC’s office, Jowai.
