NEW DELHI, Oct 21: Despite stiff opposition to the railway projects in Khasi-Jaintia Hills, the Ministry of Railways has announced the Vande Bharat Express service to Mendipathar by March next year. The Indian Railways said it is planning to roll out three more ultra-modern Vande Bharat Express trains in Meghalaya, Tripura and Jammu and Kashmir.
The Railways has also planned to introduce 75 such trains by March 2024 and is also expected to roll out two other versions – Vande Metro and Vande Bharat Sleeper Car in the current fiscal, according to Railway ministry sources.
The two trains to Meghalaya and Tripura will be of semi-high speed nature. The new Vande Bharat trains for Jammu and Kashmir will start after the Jammu-Srinagar railway line becomes functional.
