Fire damages important files in govt office

Shillong, Oct 22: A fire broke out at the PWD office at Lachumiere damaging important records and files on October 13.
According to sources the fire incident at the PWD office occurred a day before the massive fire incident at Thana Road that killed at least one person.
The news of the fire incident in the government office surfaced after reliable source informed The Shillong Times on Sunday. As per late report, the second floor of the office building caught fire and several important records and files were gutted in flames.
Sources on Sunday informed that the PWD building interestingly neither has CCTVs or a fire extinguisher which was mandatory as per the government norms.
The fire was brought under control due to the timely arrival of the fire tenders, sources informed.
As per initial report, the cause of the fire was due to the short circuit in the Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB). The PWD had also filed an FIR with the police in view of the lost of important records and files in the incident.
